“We will be one of the best teams in the country,” said head coach Chris Williams of the 17u Atlanta Express youth basketball team.
After finishing a stellar 2013 season with a 46-5 record, the team is looking to be even better this year.
“We lost a few games that we shouldn’t have lost last year,” said Williams. “We’re looking for payback.”
The team is looking to play in every major tournament throughout the year, including the “Pitt Jam Fest” tournament in Pittsburgh, the “Real Deal in The Rock” tournament in Arkansas, the Under Armour Invitational in Houston, and Las Vegas Fab 48 tournament. Every player on the team is prepared to continue playing basketball at the next level, but a few kids stand out in particular.
Doral Moore, a Seven-Footer from Luella High School in Locust Grove, GA, is ranked 21st in ESPN Top 60 with an overall scout grade of 92. He graduates in the class of 2015 and is being recruited by almost every major university, although he is still undeclared. A few schools that have offered him include Indiana, Ohio State, Illinois, and Texas.
Another standout on the team is also the youngest player. MJ Walker is a 6’5” small forward from Jonesboro High School in Atlanta, GA. He is in the class of 2017 but is already getting major attention from coaches around the nation. He was the leading scorer on his team as a freshman and led them to a state championship.
Coach Williams is very excited for the upcoming season.
“We’re ready to make some noise this year,” he said. “We’re going to give these kids exposure to the best coaches and the best talent in the nation.”
Aside from basketball, Coach Williams is determined to “turn these boys into men on and off the court.”
“If they want to play basketball, they need to first get their work done academically,” he said. “We’re here to get them to the next level in all aspects of life.”
Look out for ATL Express this year, as they are determined to become the best 17u team in the nation.
