People often ask me why am I so hard on AAU basketball, tell you the truth I love it. The problem that I have is all these rankings many of these people who do these rankings don't know what real basketball is. Don't get me wrong a lot of these young players do have talent. I recall a story on John Wall a young player with a lot of speed but no Control he had to be developed in a way that gave him the opportunity to become better. Don't get me wrong once again you must have talent to compete in this game, but you must know how to use your skills in order to beat your opponent this is something that is lacking in the game today. I know I will be criticize but it's OK if I'm bringing awareness to the game, constructive criticism is what is needed to make sure that our game stays on top in the world. If young players don't have the mental game then their physical game will be outmatch in the long run, we must teach our young players how to become a master of the game.
How can you as an individual say that a young 10 year old player is the number one player in America that is crazy give these young players time to develop. the most critical time in the athlete years are between the ages of 13-16yrs. Real development starts to take place at that time and many people think it's physical but it's really mental, comprehension of the game is something that needs to be taught. I have seen some of these websites choosing players, you really corrupt the mind of the child when you literally tell him that he's the best player in the country at the age of 10,11,12 or 13, many of these young players believe that they are entitled to something nothing is given everything earned. It's hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence that is the real way to become the best. I understand over the years AAU has become big business but at the end of the day it's about young men who need guidance to become successful in life so I challenge coaches to protect these young men from these vultures who pray on our young.
