The IndiHoops AAU Basketball Report – October, 2018 – Volume 1, Number 2

As we close out October, we saw a month with very interesting  “AAU Basketball” news.  October is typically a month for some high level showcases for High School, as scouts and media get a fresh look at some incoming freshman (Class of 2022).  USA Basketball had a High School session in Colorado Springs, as we detail some of the news in our monthly report.

IndiWorld News

IndiWorld is our signature year end event.  Our last event IndiWorld3 concluded on June 28- July 1st, 2018 in Dallas, Texas.  This event gives a brief window into the future of our game and for that reason, we kick this off with news on our alumni.

  • Scottie Barnes (IndiWorld1) 2020 is considered a top 3 player in the nation for his class.  Check out this interview at USA Basketball where Scottie briefly talks about IndiWorld and his journey.
  • Paolo Banchero is #5 in nation from Seattle Rotary (2021) (IndiWorld2) and was at the USA combine performing well.

  • Interview with 2022 Richard “Pop Pop” Isaacs who was a key performer at not only IndiWorld2 but IndIWorld3 for Vegas Elite.  He was invited to USA combine and will be playing as a Freshman at Coronado High School in Las Vegas.
  • There are so many offers for 2022 players that there are almost too many to name from IndiWorld3.  Especially from the Texas area.  The whole state of Texas was surprisingly snubbed from the USA combine which got a lot of chatter on social media this month.
  • We will end with #IndiWorld4 where we will crown not only a 2023 champion but open up 6th and 7th grade [2024,2025].

Date: June 27-30th IndiWorld is a place where the whole network can get together [live] at the end of the year.  We look to announce the city and venue by December 1st, 2018.

IndiLockers RANKINGS

We dropped our preseason Top 25 Class of 2023 rankings on October 17th, 2018.

Player Rankings 2023 (2024,2025 Coming Soon)

Our player rankings will be updated with our algorithm on November 1st.  Our player rankings at IndiLockers.com uses a proprietary system where scouts can vote and rank players.  If you would like to become part of this process: www.indilockers.com/memberships

NBA

  • Lakers get off to a tough 0-3 start with a fight breaking out on Lebron’s debut at the Staples center.  Lonzo and Kuzma get the nod to the starting line up now as Rondo and Ingraham serve suspensions.
  • New look Toronto Raptors are off to a great start, with Kawhi Leonard being the go to guy.  Raptors had an impressive win vs. the Celtics.
  • Rookie Trae Young drops 35 points and 10 assists in a win vs. Rookie Colin Sexton’s Cavs.  Another rookie that is off to an impressive start is Luka Doncic of the Mavs.  Top picks Deandre Ayton and Bagley are both off to solid starts.

NCAA Basketball

  • The big news this month was from the G League/NBA that could affect the NCAA is the announced option to go from HS to G League for top players to earn an attractive $125,000 salary.  Players can now earn $125,000 going up from roughly $30,000 previously.  This is to buy some time as well, before the One and Done rule ispotentially removed in around 2022.
  • The Top 25 AP poll preseason rankings have dropped with Kansas (1) and Kentucky (2).  Duke was at #4.
  • The FBI investigation has continued to look into college basketball’s underbelly.  Silvio De Sousa is expected not to play for Kansas this year which makes people think Kansas could forfeit their Final 4 appearance next year.
  • All 3 Defendants in the college basketball corruption trial have been found guilty of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.  James Gatto in all three of his counts, Christian Dawkins and Merl Code on both of theirs.  Report by Matt Norlander on Twitter – Sentencing will happen for all three men on March 5th.  They will remain out on bond until then.

High School AAU:

  • 2019 will bring changes to the “AAU Basketball” and HS Basketball recruitment calendars that will all take some getting used to.
  • Notable: June will be a key evaluation month with players playing with their respective HS teams in an evaluation format.  These events will be approved by the NFHS or JUCO associations.  This is a BIG change in an attempt to bring some power back to Scholastic organizations.
  • The “Non-Scholastic” periods will be April 26-28 and July 11-14th approved by the NCAA.  Typically in the past, April had 2 weekends and July 3.
  • Elite players: NBAPA Top 100 will now be a live period June 13-14 and NCAA Youth Development camps will be July 23-28.

Shoes

  • A disruptive move came from Mcdonalds All American – Darius Bazley who is opting NOT to play for Syracuse and will become a “Million Dollar” intern for New Balance, where he will work out and learn the business side for a year.  When he opts in to the draft, he will be New Balance sponsored player with incentives that could earn him up to $14 Million.  Darius scored 11 points in the Mcdonalds game and is signed to Rich Paul and Klutch Sports.
  • Rookie Mo Bamba, Hamidou Diallo, and Joel Embiid sign with Under Armour.
  • Grant Hill signs lifetime endorsement deal with Fila to revive retro releases of his coveted 1990 shoes starting next month.
  • Puma debuts their Puma Clyde Court Disrupt with their new lineup of endorsers including top picks Deandre Ayton and Marvin Bagley.

Testimonials for Coach Brian

Testimonial #1

I wanted to give my full endorsement for Coach Brian. I have Coached for twenty-two years now at the professional, Collegiate, and Elite High School level. I can tell you that I am not a fan of most AAU travel ball and ultimately do not think it holds a high place in the development of our young basketball student athletes.

I can tell you that I am a tremendous fan of The Brian and the way he not only teaches the game; but it is a true family for the patrons involved. They care about the kids, they invest their time and resources into giving people a better product.

The core values, work ethic and confidence that the coaching staff has instilled is monumental in his physical and mental preparation for the future. In closing I highly recommend Brian to kids who love the game and want to build in fundamentals with high character traits. It’s not for just anyone, it’s an opportunity to take your game to another level and to do it with integrity, team work and overall competitive desire!

Sincerely, Tim Cook – Head Coach Life Pacific College

Testominal #2

It has helped with all aspects of basketball -fundamentals, footwork, mentality, leadership and most important TEAMWORK. He remained dedicated to see all players succeed and prepared for the next level of competition. Coach Brian runs San Diego’s classiest and most trusted program that not only brings out the best of who you are but also challenges the person you never thought you can be.

– Jaren Nafarette

Testimonial #3

Top Gun [Coach Brian] is one of if not the BEST youth basketball programs in San Diego. It’s hands on and will get you better as a person and a player.
