If you ask the coaches at DC Premier where Under Armour 's Association ranks in competitiveness among peer shoe company summer programs, you'll hear that its neck and neck with NIKE's EYBL and Adidas' Gauntlet. This is in large part a product of the Baltimore based company's self ordained commitment to playing second to none in the youth summer basketball movement. The Association is also one of the few leagues that holds legitimate pools for its 16 & 15 and under age groups.
As a result, the Association has become the summer stomping ground for a number of the nation's top prep players from around the country, including the DMV. DC Premier, who is ranked #8 in the nation by indihoops.com, is in it's second season in the association and is looking to fight its way into the finals in Atlanta in July. Currently 5-3 in the Humble division, Premier is headed into the final session in New York with a lot at stake and a host of formidable foes awaiting, including 6-2 Atlanta Express who leads the league.
Premier has what it takes to make a deep run late this summer and if you're looking for a team filled with talent, then look no further. Led in scoring by Oak Hill standout Joe Hampton, the DMV based squad has as well balanced a team as any coach could recruit-. With the stellar point guard play of Alani Moore & Cameron Robinson, the tremendous athleticism in 6'7 wing/forward A.J. Wilson and a host of players who at any given time could have break out games, it is no wonder Premier is ranked 3rd in its division and has only lost one game by more than 10 points.
Wednesday evening, DC Premier was hard at work at Riverdale High School going through fundamental drills with their coaches and listening to pointers from seasoned instructors. The team has about a week and a half to work out all of the kinks before they head into a hostile environment in the New York, filled with teams who are hoping to end their season as UA champions. Last year it was New Heights (7-1), this year it's anyone's trophy to take and Premier is in good stead to stake their claim for this year's hardware.
Special thanks to Recruiting Coordinator Chuck Henry and the DC Premier program as a whole for inviting us to practice. Look out for the Summer Circuit Series on his talented 16u team coming soon.
