Nike Extravaganza
Last February, as the eyes of the sports world focused on New York City for Super Bowl weekend; the eyes of the prep basketball world were squarely affixed on the opposite coast. The Nike Extravaganza was hosted at Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana and featured a national line up of elite talent from all over the country and Hoops Factory TV was in attendance (shout outs to Indi Hoops). This episode is jam packed with some of the best prep basketball talent from all over the country.
First up was Jahlil Okafor, the #1 player in the country and Duke recruit, talked about the joy of winning despite immense expectations and the camaraderie he gets from the basketball community. We also catch up with Daniel Hamilton, UConn commit and younger brother of NBA swingman Jordan Hamilton, who was refreshingly raw and unfiltered followed by Jordan McLaughlin whose performance at the Extravaganza had the whole gym buzzin’. Hamilton’s teammate Tyler Dorsey was next up, and spoke candidly about playing the point at the next level and college recruitment.
Sedrick Barefield, who we caught up with for the third time this season, stopped by to talk technique and becoming a leader on a team that ended up in the CIF State Final. Barefield’s former Compton Magic teammate, Rex Pflueger, was next on the docket and talked about his performance the Hoop Hall Classic and so much more. The elite talent did not stop with Georgetown commit Paul White dropping bye to discuss coming back from injury followed by his Whitney Young teammate and St. Louis recruit, Myles Reynolds. Cory Henson who will be attending Wagner College next year talked fatigue and conditioning after having traveled from Washington D.C.
Johnny Vasser talked goals for college at Northwestern and Deontae North also looked forward to his time at Long Beach State. Dylan Osetkowski talked about expanding his game followed by California Supreme (AAU) coach, Mike Law. Ryan Silver was next up and talked about his partnership with Under Armour. We end the episode with a pair of coaches; Reggie Morris Jr. from Redondo Union talked about coaching elite talent including Russell Westbrook and DeMatha’s Mike Jones talked about replacing a bona fide legend in Morgan Wootten.
