The mark of a good event is the growth in the quality of teams across the board in all age groups…check that box for the 2nd annual IndiHoops Tip-off. Here are some of the top players from last night.
2019 6-7 G Elias King (Stampede 16’s) Already a very good shooter off the catch and dribble, the growth in his game is coming on the defensive end where he can establish himself as a lockdown defender. King used his considerable length to disrupt penetration and contest shots.
2019 6-3 CG Trae Broadnax (Stampede 16’s) I knew he could create shot opportunities for himself utilizing his strength and solid handles but what I liked was his ability to drive and kick to shooters. He also did a great job rebounding on the defensive end.
2019 6-9 C (Muhamadou Diawara (Stampede 16’s) I cam away impressed with his footwork and his ability to navigate the paint with quick spins and counter moves. As he progresses he will need to improve on passing out of double teams. Good motor, runs floor.
2020 5-9 PG Sharife Cooper (AOT 16’s) He made his defender pay for going under ball screens yesterday. His ability to create off the dribble leaves defenders vulnerable to his pull-up. High level vision and competitor.
2019 6-6 W Isaac Okoro (AOT 16’s) His improvement is coming in waves. Whether its his handle, jumper, rebounding or defending Okoro has improved in all areas, making him one of the countries top wings in his class. He was very good on the offensive glass and attacking to finishes.
2019 6-3 SG Tyrin Lawrence (Atlanta Celtics 17’s) The slashing guard is a do all player, fearless attacking the basket and finishing among the trees. He didn’t have one of his better shooting days but is very capable of lighting the torch from outside. Defends and rebounds his position well.
2018 6-2 SG Rashod Bateman (Atlanta Celtics 17’s) I hear he’s a very good football player but this kids stroke is effortless and with deep range. He is good enough with the ball to get his spots and isn’t afraid to get to the cup against the overeager defender worried about his jumper
2017 5-11 PG Jordan Walker (Stampede 17’s) Was the difference maker in their win against the Celtics. It was hard keeping him out the lane with his considerable handle and speed change. Walker has improved his jumper over the years and definitely has high major ability.
