Interview with Meanstreets (Chicago) Head Coach

Located in one of the biggest hotbeds in the world for prep basketball, Meanstreets has developed into one of the most prominent Elite Youth Basketball squads . Similar to fellow Chicago-based AAU program Mac Irvin Fire, Meanstreets utilizes the elite talent in Chicago and the surrounding area. Boasting star alumni such as Derrick Rose and Eric Gordon, Meanstreets has become one of the most recognized AAU basketball programs nation-wide.  They just enjoyed another solid season, finishing 12-6 and qualifying for the illustrious Peach Jam in South Carolina. After the final Minneapolis session, Meanstreets is just outside our Power 10 and are ranked 18th on Indihoops 17U rankings.

Indivisible Hoops beat writer Jarrell Strong had a chance to talk to Meanstreets 17U Head Coach Terrence Wilburn the 17U. Here’s what he had to say;

(Jarrell) Question  1: Who are the players to watch on your team and who is the X-factor for your team?

The team is loaded with talent this year. We have 11  players in our rotation., The key players are Paul White, Charles Matthews, Tyler Ulis,, Ty Wilburn and. Donte Thomas.

Question 2: What college coaches are in contact your players the most?

The colleges that contact us are all over the board. The most consistent are Butler and Iowa. Donte has been getting calls from Kennesaw State and Kent State. Ty has been getting calls from different mid-majors,. one in particular being Middle Tennessee State.

Question 3: How do you feel about how your team’s performance up to this point?

Up to this point, we haven’t ever had the whole team. Our starters have only played six games together and we still played well. I feel like the team will be great once everyone is playing together and healthy

Question 4: What can you improve on for the June/July period to become a better team?

We just have to practice, get healthy and play as a team

Question 5: Which team was the most difficult to play against this spring?

Probably Houston Hoops. They have a lot of size, pretty good team.
