| This year's Las Vegas Fab 48 held on July 24-28 and headquartered at Bishop Gorman HS (Las Vegas NV) attracted 384 teams (maximum capacity) from across the nation, Canada and Germany that competed in the five 17u divisions (208 teams), two 16u divisions (96 teams) and two 15u divisions (80 teams). This year's Las Vegas Junior Fab 48 (held July 27-30) had 105 teams spread across its 14u, 13u, 12u, 11u and 10u divisions.
DC Assault 17 (MD), behind Maryland-bound Romelo Trimble (tourney MVP) outlasted scrappy Deron Williams Elite 17 (TX) 60-56 to capture the 17u Invitational title. DC Assault and Deron Williams Elite advanced to the 17u Invite title game by defeating Ray Allen Select (WI) and Mo Williams Elite(TX), respectively. Other teams that reached the Elite 8 included Belmont Shore (CA), Juice All-Stars (NY), Net Gain (MN) and BTI Select (CA). Past champions of the Fab 48 17u Invitational Division include Team Loaded (2012), KC 76’ers (2011) and Oakland Soldiers (2010). The title game of the loaded 16u Invitational Division featured Pangos Elite Silver 16 (CA) and DC Assault 16 (MD) and it wasPangos Elite 16 Silver prevailing 64-53 behind the strong guard play of rising soph 6'2" Leland Green (Redondo Union/Redondo Beach CA) and rising juniors 6'1" Tommy McCarthy (La Costa Canyon/Carslbad CA) and 6'2" Jeffrey McClendon (Pasadena/Pasadena CA) along with rising soph 6'11" center Jayce Johnson (Mater Dei/Santa Ana CA). | 2013 Las Vegas Fab 48 Tip-Off Tip-Off Challenge
On the eve of the tourney (Wednesday July 24th), a special event was held - Fab 48 Tip-Off Challenge - assembling 16 elite teams that drew a capacity crowd of college coaches, scouts, media and fans to Bishop Gorman High School. Teams participating were DC Assault (MD), Texas Select, Mo Williams Elite (TX), Mac Irvin Fire (IL), Belmont Shore (CA), Ray Allen Select (WI), Las Vegas Prospects (NV), Utah Prospects, Pangos Elite 17 (CA), Juice All-Stars (NY), Wisconsin Swing, Nothing But Net (MN), Chicago Mustangs (IL), Big Red (CA), Northern Kings (Toronto Canada) and Aim High (CA). No less than twelve 5-star prospects from the classes of 2014 & 2015 were on display that night: Jahlil Okafor, Cliff Alexander, Emmanuel Mudiay, Myles Turner, Stanley Johnson, Rashad Vaughn, Daniel Hamilton, Malik Newman, Stephen Zimmerman, Tyler Dorsey, Charles Matthews and Jaquan Lyle. The highlight of the evening was Belmont Shore's 101-93 win over Mo Williams Elite where four players scored 30 points or more: Tyler Dorsey (35 points), Malik Newman (32 points), Emmanuel Mudiay (31 points) and Daniel Hamilton (31 points). Additionally Scout.com's#1 2015 prospect Stephen Zimmerman added 21 points/11 boards/7 blocks. Rivals.com's Eric Bossi called it "Easily the most thrilling game of the night -- and one of the most exciting on the grassroots circuit in some time." |
