Game 5: Bishop Gorman 82, Beaverton 57
7-foot big man Stephen Zimmerman went 8-9 from the field and lead all scorers with 19 points as Bishop Gorman cruised past Beaverton in the first game of the evening session at Liberty High School. Chase Jeter was a perfect 6-6 from the field and added 18 points. For the game, Bishop Gorman shot 62.7% including 15-22 from the field in the second half. BG lead 23-7 after the first quarter and none of their players played more than 20 minutes in the game. Beaverton (2-3) was lead by Sam Parker and Connor Brands who came off the bench to 12 and 11 points respectively. Bishop Gorman will need to do better from the free throw line if they expect to win the tournament. They were 14-30 for the night. Beaverton gave themselves a chance to win the game shooting 37 of their 57 shots from behind the arc making 12 threes in the ball game. Bishop Gorman will play Jesuit tomorrow at 4:00pm. Jesuit has a history of giving out of state teams trouble and they already beat Timberline (WA) earlier today.
Game 6: West Linn 80, South Eugene 51
Payton Pritchard led four West Linn players who scored in double digits on the night and finished with a team high 17 points and 8 assists. Anthony Mathis and Hayden Coppedge both added 14 points apiece and Ryan Shearmire scored 11 points on 5-6 shooting to lead West Linn past South Eugene. The game was tied at the end of the first quarter and West Linn lead 35-28 at the half. West Linn came out of the half and pushed the pace. The Lions won the quarter 27-11 and pulled away thank in part to Anthony Mathis drilling three 3 pointers in the first 3 minutes of the third quarter. West Linn had 9 players play double-digit minutes. South Eugene (3-3) was lead by Mason Green-Edwards who added 19 points in the contest. Yale commit Eli Lininger struggled shooting the ball and finished with 9 points and 9 rebounds for the Axemen. West Linn (4-3) will play against Tigard tomorrow night at 5:30pm. Tigard beat Central Catholic earlier on Friday.
Game 7: Whitney Young 71, Clackamas 31
Whitney Young blew out Clackamas on Friday night in their first game at the LSI. Whitney Young led 41-12 at halftime in a half that saw Jahlil Okafar, the nation's top recruit. Score 17 points and add 5 rebounds and 3 blocks. Okafor, who will be headed to Duke next fall, finished the game with 23 points and 9 rebounds on 11-14 shooting (1-6 FT’s). Marcus Golder led the way for Clackamas (5-2) with 8 points. For the game Clackamas shot only 21% including 1-22 from three-point range.
Whitney Young will move on to play Churchill tomorrow night at 7:00pm. Churchill was impressive earlier in the day in a 79-65 win over Central Catholic.
Game 8: Rainier Beach 93, Grant 66
Shaqquan Aaron led all scorers with 28 points and added 11 rebounds in a 93-66 win over Grant High School. Rainier Beach led 47-25 at halftime after Aaron’s hot start. Rainier Beach had 5 players in double figures: Dejounte Murray scored 16, David Crisp 14, Elijiah Foster 12, and Naim Ladd had 10. Deiondre Bird scored 24 points to lead Grant (5-1). Rainier Beach controlled the backboards 48-31 and shot 50% (33-66) from the field.
Tomorrow night Rainier Beach will face Jefferson at 8:30pm. Jefferson beat Lake Oswego today 65-63.
