The Derrick Coleman Midwest Challenge was a huge success, Chicago teams won 3 out of th3 4 games, each game was closely contested and very physical.  Although Detroit Mumford was the only hometown winner there is no doubt that the perception the Detroit is without talent was quickly put to rest. The 2 stars of the night were the Detroit PSL candidates for the Michigan Mr. Basketball award. Darrell Davis of Fredrick Douglas and Justin Tillman of Pershing  showed up on the big stage. Darrell Davis showed  that he could score from every level of the floor, he was also able to create shots for other team mates he will be a great Addition to the Dayton Flyers I expect him to have an immediate impact at the next level. Justin Tillmans future  head coach Shaka Smart (VCU) sat courtside as  Justin showed the versatility and quickness that VCU usually has in their bigs . Tillman should fit right into the full court pressure defense that VCU  employs on a nightly basis he is very fast for a kid of his size. Coming into the season most have Jaylen Johnson  6-9 PF (YPSILANTI) as their favorite to win Mr. Basketball with the performance of Tillman and Davis in the season opener voters may want to hold off until March to make that decision.
