We were in Dallas Tx, for the Texas Throwdown ran by Deon Barrett and there were some hidden gems in the 2021 class that we saw and ones from teams in our rankings.
Mighty Kings 2021
Makhi Dorsey: a strong physical lefty who attacks the rim and finishes through contact. A player who makes his teammates better with his above average IQ.
Damonta Moore: energetic guard who defends very well. Made some important hustle plays in their team victory against a talented RM5 Black 2021 team.
Nick: Nick is a knock down shooter who has a very quick and efficient release. Made some big shots in their first game against RM5 Black.
Josh Livingston: Livingston is a physical forward who does all the small things to help his team win, he boxed out, took charges, set screens to get his teammates open for easy shots. Livingston played very good basketball this weekend.
RM5 Black
Johann Dhanoolal: We were impressed with the way Johann attacked the basket and knocked down tough shots. He used his length on defense to create turnovers and lob passes for fast break lay ups.
Jordan Roberts: Roberts played well against a scrappy Mighty Kings team. He knocked down big shots and defended the 1-4 position. Roberts is definitely a prospect to watch!
Donerio Davenport: Davenport played very hard in the loss against the Mighty Kings. We describe him as a tough fearless guard who is always in attack mode. He kept defenders on their heels with his quick crossover moves.
Michael Ungu: Ungo is a 6'6 left handed forward who creates match up issues for most opposing teams. He blocked shots left and right and rebounded very well! Ungo had quite a few contact finishes that converted into and 1s. We were impressed with his play this weekend.
Daniel Tuck: a quick guard who can handle the ball with pressure on him. He played very hard in a solid PG matchup against Deontrell Barrett. Tuck showed off his shooting ability with long 3 pointers and mid range jump shots.
Dallas Panthers 2022
Nicholas Jett: Is an athletic wing who defends 1-5! Really stood out against 2023 Proskills in the first game of the throwdown.
Gerardo Briseno: A strong forward with great size for his age and he competes on both ends of the floor. Blocking shots and rebounding! He provided a defensive presence which created bad shots for opposing teams.
Marc Maldonado: We really enjoyed Marc's play Saturday. He took defenders off the dribble and finished with contact. Marc displayed his perimeter play with mid range jump shots and his good ball handling skills.
Charlie Johnson: a smooth floor general who can shoot the lights out from anywhere on the court. Led his Dallas Panthers team to a victory over the tough Proskills squad.
Be Elite
Deontrell Barrett: We were very excited to get the chance to check out Deontrell "Man Man" Barrett the younger brother of current UTEP guard Deon Barrett. We've heard a lot about him and we left impressed! He finished the tournament undefeated and carrying his squad with a 19 point 8ast effort. Barrett effected the game in all aspects from his ability to score to his no look passes. He really made it tough for defenders to guard him because of his big frame and ball handling combinations. Barrett reminds us of a younger Byron Eaton, we can't wait to catch him in the future once again.
Kesean Hardy: quick lefty who can score the ball at will. Hardy played hard all weekend long helping guide his team to a 3-0 weekend and a 1st place trophy! He knocked down long range threes and fast break layups.
Jeremiah Lovely: Lovely really stood out Saturday with his strength and athletic ability! He grabbed just about every loose ball and finished almost everything in the paint. Jeremiah is a player to watch, a strong quick forward with a high motor.
We want to congratulate the champions of the weekend here at the #TexasThrowdown2017 there were a lot of talent and tough teams.
