Week 1 Top East Coast Teams
Team Takeover 17U | EYBL Circuit | Record 3-0 | Team Takeover is playing like a team possessed early in the season. They are coming off a perfect Brooklyn showing largley due to the speed with which they play. Chris Lykes and Aaron Thompson may be the fastest backcourt in the country, surround them with explosive wings DJ Harvey and Myles Douglas and they are a hand full to defend. They dismantled their first opponent, All Ohio by 26 points and then dropped a talented Boo Williams squad by 14 points. Their 3rd game was much like the first two, a blow out 21 point win against Mac Irvin Fire. They will need Garza to step up against teams with stronger front lines, but they have what it takes to make another deep run in the Peach Jam. Expect players such as Eddie Scott, Chyree Walker, and Ryan Allen to make themselves known as well.
PSA Cardinals | EYBL Circuits | Record 2-0 | PSA won two nail biters in both their contests over the weekend. They began by knocking off a loaded California Supreme squad on the national stage. The inside out threat of Mohamed Bamba and Quade Green make this team special to watch. 6’6 Wing Brandon Randolph adds additional scoring and athleticism on a team that dresses 9 out of 11 players who are 6’5 and up. Their size creates matchup problems for most teams and makes it difficult for opponents to get clear looks at the basket. They have shown that they can win close games and have the talent to win the tropy in July.
Team Final | EYBL Circuit | Record 3-0 | The troupe of PA, NJ and DE’s finest play like a team that has been playing together for years. Defensively they force teams into a frantic pace and convert turnovers into fast break points. Team Final relies heavily on the scoring of star shooting gaurd Lonnie Walker and forward Cameron Reddish who scored over half of the team’s points in 2/3 of their wins. The cerbral Daron Russel is the perfect point guard for the team; he runs the offense, plays defense, and picks his spots to knock down shots.
The Rens | EYBL Circuit | Record 2-0 | Rens is a very well balanced team with one of the most explosive players on the circuit: Hamidou Diallo. The athletic wing drew the attention of just about every major division 1 coach at the event. Diallo and Jordan Tucker give Rens athleticism and skill. Couple that with the gritty play of point guard Jose Alvarado and you have a team ready to compete with anyone on the ciruit.
New Heights | Underarmour Association | Record 3-1 | New Heights can score with the best of them. They are averaging 66.5 points per game behind the shooting of Keith Williams, Isiah Washington, and Sidney Wilson. It is highly unlikely that all three of them will have an off night and if all of them are on, it’s trouble for opposing defenses. The bounced back from a 2 point loss to New Jersey Jazz and continued to impress over the weekend.
DC Premier | Underarmour Associaton | 3-1 | Premier has a bevy of slashing guards in Marshall, Hubb, Clarence and Wilson. Each game will bring a new top performer, whether it be Hubb scoring 20 or Watson grabbing 20 boards. The did fall to a talented Florida Vipers (4-0) team, but will look to avenge the loss later in the season as they looked sharp in their 3 wins.
