- Boston Amateur Basketball Club
Established in 1977, the Boston Amateur Basketball Club (BABC) has evolved into one of the most prestigious amateur basketball programs in the country. Founded by Head Coach Leo Papile, the BABC has much to be proud of having won 16 National Championships and capturing 88 gold medals in the AAU New England competitions. Founded solely to serve as an elite boys basketball program (enabling metropolitan Boston high school athletes the ability to compete at the highest level of amateur competition available nationally and internationally) the program has today evolved into a multi-tiered non-profit corporation. In addition to our acclaimed elite boys basketball team, BABC currently sponsors an amateur ABF/USA sanctioned boxing program; a developmental boys basketball program – BABC Academy (grades 5-8). BABC has become a leader in the Boston basketball community with the hosting of three of the areas’ most prestigious events. Each June the Boston Shootout has been hosted by BABC (since 1999), carrying on a tradition began by the Boys Clubs of Boston from 1972-1998. The event consists of 12 elite boys basketball teams. In 1996 BABC started the Holiday Classic for high school Boys and Girls teams over Christmas vacation week at Chelsea high school. This event has developed into New England’s most prestigious holiday tournament. Legendary New England high school powers like Cambridge Rindge & Latin, Lexington, New Bedford, Springfield Central, Wilbur Cross (New Haven, CT) and Bishop Hendricken (Warwick, RI) are among our annual participants. Chelsea high school has been the recipient of nearly $70,000 in scholarships donated by BABC over the history of this event. 2009 began the BABC Prep Invitational for NEPSAC Schools on Martin Luther King Holiday Weekend. Featuring national prep school powers such as Tilton School, St. Thomas More, Brewster Academy, and among others. Affiliation: Nike
