Welcome to Frazier Youth Basketball, a 501-c-3/aau sanctioned non-profit organization created to provide a compeitive basketball environment for boys age 14-17 as they mature into young men, balancing maturity in athletics and citizenship in pursuit of playing basketball at "the next level" In 2010, our U15 team enjoyed an excellent season, earning top 10 in North Carolina and finishing 6th at USSBA nationals in Myrtle Beach. 2010 put us on the map and in the spotlight. 2011 and 2012 will be a time to earn more regional and national recognition for our progam and our players. I am Ron Frazier, founder and coach for FYB and i have been a youth counselor for the last 25 years. I have brought together a tried and true team of coaches and staff that focuses on our players and their development. To read more about how I came to form FYB, please see my bio. The FYB basketball trainer is Scott Stankavage, a QB at UNC, member of the NFL Denver Broncos and also a nominee in 1980 for the McDonalds All-America Basketball team. Mr. Stankavage has over 20 years of coaching youth sports, including AAU and middle school girls and boys basketball, wining numerous championships on all levels. Mr. Stankavage personal relationships with former Duke great Johnny Dawkins and former UNC player Matt Doherty, as well as exposure to the teaching and practices of Dean Smith, Roy Williams and Coach K have influenced his basketball teaching and the systems he teaches players under his tutelage. FYB teams will be known for fundamental, hard nose, disciplined and competitive basketball. Inidividual players will be recognized for their toughness, their unselfish play and thier relentless effort to improve the team and in so doing improve their own individual games. Defensively, FYB teams will play tough, straight up man to man defensive principals, with tremendous emphasis on help defense and on boxing out for rebounds. we will also use the Syracuse 2-3 matchup zone concept and employ an athletic 3/4 court trap defense. Offensively, we will fast break at every opportunity, seeking to exploit our athleticism and ball handling. If "numbers" are not available on an immeidate run out, we will transition into a "secondary break" similar to that used by UNC under both Dean Smith and Roy williams. in half court offensive, we will become disciplined and concise in running 4 basic man to man sets patterned off of what Duke does on offense. Our goals Develop individual players in both their physical skills, mental toughness, work ethic and overall success Win championships Provide exposure to college recruiters, scouts and coaches. To play in Charlotte in an AAU Superregional qualification tournament and also play in the North Carolina state championships. Focus on "showcase" events on the east coast.
