New Jersey Rising Stars

DIRECTOR: John Spiess
LOCATION: Flemington, New Jersey,

Originally created as "The Jersey Shore Chazers" in 1972, the "Stars" are now heading into their 41st consecutive year of AAU Basketball existence and have become a well-respected name - not only in New Jersey but also throughout the country. As an 18 and under team in 1976, the "Stars" finished third in the Nation at the AAU National Championships at the University of Notre Dame. While this was the "Stars" first taste of exposure outside of New Jersey, it was not to be their last. Over the years, the "Stars" have played in 11 other National Championships and in 25 different states and Canada, while playing against girls from 48 different states and 5 countries including Russia, Brazil and Yugoslavia. Over 1,300 different players have worn the "Stars" uniform since 1972, with over half of them going on to play college ball and many of them earning scholarships to such top-level schools as Duke, Miami, Rutgers, N.C. State, Georgetown, Providence and many, many more. All eight 2009/2012 Star graduates are now playing college ball on the Division 1, 2, 3 and Junior College levels. All three 2011 Star graduates are playing college basketball. The present staff of the Rising Stars is: John Spiess, Mark Anderko, Tom Daley, Mike Meagher, Dave Piscadlo, Lou Ponce, Kari Spiess & Howie Thompson
