The purpose and birth of this program is simple – we want to help the youth. We want to not only change their reflection but rather enhance the expectations of the lives of our community by offering these young men a chance to be something or rather someone different than another staining statistic. We want to show them responsibility. Also, we seek to encourage these young men and build within them a sense of pride and positive confidence. We want to give them hope – a dream worth the chase. In one short year, it seems we have done just that. We have given these young men the freedom to believe that they can succeed even in the face of a dream’s difficulty. We have changed their perspective.
Our program is about more than just giving these young men an opportunity to be better athletes. It is a program that teaches discipline, respect, hard work, and sacrifice. We talk about college, making tough decisions, their struggles in school, and behavior modification. We are more than coaches. We have become mentors to these kids. I think the best thing about our program is that the kids have bought into these principles.
