I was in Duncanville for the Dallas Basketball Regional Showcase and there was some good talent in the building. Below are the players that stood out to me on Sunday. High School Notables Grayson Carter, 2018 F Dallas Showtyme: Carter looked good in the game I saw him play. He is becoming more mobile on defense especially in his hedges and recovery on screens. His shot off the dribble looked good and Carter looks to have a big season. Matt Garriga, 2018 G Dallas Showtyme: Garriga is a smart basketball player that gets in his spots to score. He shoots the ball well and he has sneaky athleticism. Like the improvements in his game. Tamir Bynum, 2018 PG Texas Elite Nelson: Bynum has great athleticism for his size and he finished above the rim multiple times when the opportunity was present. A strong guard that can finish inside due to his strength and he has a nice touch on his floaters as well. Keller Boothby, 2019 F Texas BU Nation: Boothby shot the ball well and the 6’5 forward does a good job on pick and pop scenarios and scoring getting open in transition for the corner three. He is the type of player you can’t give much space to because he is efficient shooting from the catch. Tre Jones, 2019 F Arlington Rise: Jones is and athletic player that excels in transition. He runs the floor well and will throw it down with space going towards the rim. I like how he is a straight line attacker on offense, at the most making one move and go. Clay Wilson, 2019 G I Am I Will: Wilson is a solid guard that plays fast. He has a solid frame and he showed ability to get his teammates involved, he just has to be quicker on his reads. He has a chance to be a really solid player and on Sunday he impressed me with his skill-set. Albert Davis, 2019 G/F Texas Pride: A lot to like about Albert’s game and the main thing I like is the ability to effect the game on both ends. His athleticism and ball handling ability allow him to create for himself better and defensively his speed, size and strength allow him to guard multiple positions effectively. La’Vantae Shenault, G/F So Fly All Stars: Shenault is a tough two-way player that plays with a high motor. Most of his points come from attacking the basket and defensively, he is aggressive, being able to play tight discipline on-ball defense. John Pereira, 2019 P Dallas Mustangs: Pereira has a solid size standing at 6’8 and although still needs work on the block, he showed flashes of a player that can score inside consistently well. He plays with a high motor and help-side defense he did a good job getting in position and altering shots. Zarek Thomas, 2019 G So Fly All Stars: Zarek has been a player that I have highlighted for some time and I like the poise he showed on Sunday on the court. He scores in bunches but he seemed to be smarter on his reads coming off screens and didn’t force shots like he used to in the past. Good to see the IQ improving for Thomas. Keionte Cornelius, 2019 PG Dallas Mustangs: Like Zarek Thomas, Cornelius is a bucket getter. The guard is capable of scoring 30 when he is on the court and is range on his jumper forces defenders to guard him pass the volleyball line. Tay Peavy, 2019 PG Texas Elite Nelson: Peavy is a very quick guard that did a good job getting his teammates involved. Known for his scoring, Peavy is a very willing passer and a solid defender. A name to keep an eye on this spring/summer. Edwin Cooper, 2019 PG Talons: Cooper caught fire in the second half in the Talons game against Blue Star Shooters with 14 points, 4-8 from three and two assists in the last two minutes to close the game out. Big time performance! Jay Wilson, 2020 F Blue Star Shooters: Wilson looks like he has grown and he is playing tougher, getting into the lane and finishing. I like how he took contact and still finished strong. His handles are best in transition as he is continuing to get better as a shot creator in the half-court setting. Overall, Wilson has shown improvement in his game and that is important to me. Misiel Teklai, 2020 PG Blue Star Shooters: Teklai is a small guard but scrappy on defense and a smooth scorer on offense. Teklai is an efficient scorer off the dribble making over 50% in the games I saw. Vonte Washington, 2019 PG Texas Pride: Washington is a quick guard that can be instant offense when hot. He has a quick release on his shot and when he drives he finds the shooters in the corner and wings. He impressed me more I saw him today and he is does a lot of good on the court. Keyon Craddock, 2019 PG Texas BU Nation: I saw much improvements in Keyon’s game, especially in decision making in close games. His IQ is getting better and now with an much improved athleticism, Keyon is a very solid finisher inside and has good lift on his pull-up jumper. Quevian Adger, 2020 F BMM: Adger’s handles and footwork keep getting better and now he has a dependable pull-up jumper from the top of the key. His coordination is better and is more in control with the ball when he is in transition. Standing at 6’6-6’7, Adger will be a problem. Darrius Whittington, 2020 G BMM: Whittington has very solid size at the point guard spot at 6’2 especially as a freshman and I like how hard he plays on both ends. He has a smooth jumper and he does a good job getting the ball out of his hands quick in transition which is a small thing but led to easy baskets for his team. RJ Hampton, 2020 PG Texas BU Nation: When his team needs points, Hampton steps up and gets the bucket. He showcase the scoring ability that makes him highly talked about in his class but he is a willing passer and makes the smart play in transition. Had close to 40 points in his morning game against So Fly All Stars. Kobe Jones, 2020 PG Court of Dreams: Jones can shoot the ball at a high level and his decision making has gotten better. Still sometimes forces passes that aren’t there but I do like that he is aggressive with the ball and but still able to get his teammates in position for an open look. 2021’s Playing Up Duncan Powell, F BMM: Powell is a strong player on the block and he has a solid touch in the mid-range. He is quicker on decisions with the ball and that allows him to get good, high quality shots. Kade Anderson, PG Blue Star Shooters: Anderson managed the floor well for his team and defensively was active. His shot is improving and he is starting to take shots from 15ft out with no thought. KJ Liggins, PG Dallas Mustangs: Liggins didn’t see much playing time but his time on the court he was effective. He has the ability to create a good shot for himself, find the shooters when he drives and defensively moves his feet well laterally. Playing with the 17U team, Liggins was very impressive. 2021 Sunday All Stars Coby West PG Dallas Mustangs Elijah Taylor, PG BMM Shannon Lowery, F BMM CJ Noland, G ProSkills Rytis Petraitis, G ProSkills 2022 Sunday All Stars Gerald Abbott, F Louisiana All American Select Rayshun McCullar, G Louisiana All American Select Tre White, G ProSkills (Played 8th Grade Division) Keyonte George, G ProSkills (Played 8th Grade Division) Jaydon Saxon, F Dallas Mustangs Dorian Goodman, G Dallas Mustangs 2023 Sunday All Stars Tyson Berry, G ProSkills Matthew Reed, P ProSkills William Hills, F Ballers Elite Tjohnn Brown, G Ballers Elite Jacovey Campbell, G ProSkills
